New York and Haarlem, The Netherlands – In a move that capitalizes on its best-known brand name and furthers its goal to create an integrated, streamlined global organization, VNU announced today it is changing its name to The Nielsen Company. VNU owns the Nielsen television ratings service as well as leading business publications (Billboard, The Hollywood Reporter, Adweek) and over 60 trade shows.
“Nielsen is one of the great names in the information-services industry,” said David L. Calhoun, chairman & chief executive officer of The Nielsen Company. “For more than 75 years, the Nielsen brand has stood for the highest standards of integrity and quality and for independence and objectivity….. and it is now the name under which we all will go to market.”
Immediate steps to launch the new branding for the company include the introduction of a new corporate web site, (www.nielsen.com) and graphic identity. Calhoun said the new identity will be rolled out progressively by all Nielsen businesses during 2007.
