SISO Offers TSE Readers Reduced Rate; Session Explores the Early Results of Social Network Revolution

HIL ANDERSON, SENIOR EDITOR

New York, NY – Trade Show Executive readers who are members of the Society of Independent Show Organizers (SISO) may attend the 2009 SISO Executive Conference at the early-registration fee of $495.

To take advantage of the limited-time offer, attendees must fax SISO the registration form found on the SISO website by 5 p.m. PDT on Thursday, July 30.

The conference program is proving to be a bargain at any price.

SISO has set aside half of the August 5 agenda at the New York City conference to explore the current state of social media as it relates to the nuts and bolts of running a successful trade show brand.

“It used to be that our events were not complete without a website. Now, Web 2.0 has raised the bar and no show can maximize its success without a clear, measured social media plan,” said SISO Executive Director Lew Shomer.

Plenty of predictions about the potential of social media in a trade show setting have been addressed at various industry conferences. The SISO Executive Summit moves past the pitch and focuses on the results in the field using case studies and participant workshops.

The goal is to assist show managers in differentiating the different social media sites, determining which sites are best suited to which online communities and outlining ways that a value can be attached to specific applications.

The session consists of three separate presentations. Barry Libert, chairman & CEO of Mzinga, will lead off with the keynote on the basics of major social media technologies and strategies companies may use to adapt them to their individual business needs.

panel discussion will follow on how show organizers have actually been using social media and the results they have seen. Susan McPherson, vice president, global events for PR Newswire, will lead the discussion.

Following a networking break, Libert will return for a roundtable discussion that includes an interactive workshop to help attendees design a plan to launch their own social networking campaigns.

The 2009 SISO Executive Conference will take place August 4-6 at the New York Marriott Marquis. Other session topics include management in a down economy, improving ROI, going green and uncovering “unconventional” revenue streams.
