Retail Associations Merge; No Change in Show Plans

HIL ANDERSON, SENIOR EDITOR

Washington, DC – The National Retail Federation (NRF) and the Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA) agreed to merge to improve their clout in Washington, but have no plans to alter their respective flagship trade shows.

The NRF’s Retail’s BIG Show and RILA’s annual Logistics Conference will continue on as they have been but will be open to members of both organizations. Both the NRF and RILA also annually present smaller, more specialized educational conferences aimed at executives in the retail industry.

The two associations said joining forces would amplify the industry’s voice in Washington. “The challenges and opportunities before our members are unprecedented. Now is the right time to bring these associations together,” RILA Chairman Robert Niblock and NRF Chairman Myron Ullman said in a joint statement.

Retail’s BIG Show, which also acts as the annual NRF convention, will be held January 10-13, 2010 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. The 2010 Logistics Conference will take place February 21-24 at the Gaylord Palms Resort & Convention Center in Orlando.
