Reed Exhibitions Taps EPiServer for Web Management System

HIL ANDERSON, SENIOR EDITOR

London, England – Reed Exhibitions selected Sweden’s EPiServer to provide a system that will lessen the involvement of IT specialists in managing the content on its growing portfolio of websites.

EPiServer will provide its Content Management System (CMS) to Reed, which has grown to more than 500 events in 38 nations with a corresponding growth spurt in the number of show websites it manages.

The company-wide deployment of CMS will remove potential bottlenecks in the updating of websites by enabling non-technical staff to perform most editing tasks. “We need to be able to quickly and easily develop new sites, and we need the content on these sites to be managed by event managers, not programmers,” said Reed Exhibitions Chief Information Officer Dominic Shine.

EPiServer’s list of features that make its Microsoft.NET-based CMS friendlier to non-techie users includes a drop-and-drag editing tool and online collaboration among content writers. The program also creates new pages rather than overwriting existing pages, ensuring that important information is never lost. CMS also is capable of creating pages in up to 30 different languages and timed releases of new content and press releases.

Reed plans to create a series of templates that will be used by the managers of each event to manage their website content. The system will also be integrated with other Reed Internet platforms, including its salesforce.com, which is used by Reed sales personnel.

“EPiServer CMS is central to our online architecture and will be connected to our other platforms as we progress with a significant overhaul of our enterprise applications over the coming years,” said Shine.
