Reed Exhibitions Expands Portfolio

DANICA TORMOHLEN, EDITOR-AT-LARGE

Norwalk, Conn. — Reed Exhibitions is adding another show to its portfolio with the Tiny House & Simple Living Jamboree. Reed will collaborate with the National Tiny House Jamboree to produce the 2017 event, which will be held October 27-29 at the Arlington Convention Center in Arlington, Texas.

Darin Zaruba, President of EcoCabins and the Founder of the National Tiny House Jamboree, launched the event in 2015. Last year, the event attracted more than 50,000 attendees to the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo.

“This amazing and unforeseen attendance was overwhelming,” according to the post on the event’s Facebook page. “We realized that continued exponential growth was quickly becoming something we were not fully equipped to handle. For this reason, and to ensure an amazing and professional experience for all attendees, we determined that a change was crucial.”

Reed and Zaruba have collaborated to re-launch the event in Arlington in 2017. “The name has been modified to the Tiny House & Simple Living Jamboree to reflect the growth strategy of the event to cover not only the tiny house movement but also the passion for those devoted to small, smart and sustainable living,” said Marie Browne, Group Vice President, LaunchPad, for Reed Exhibitions The Americas. “While Reed owns and will manage the event, Darin (Zaruba) will remain involved in strategy, content and other responsibilities that tap into his vast industry expertise.”

Texas has proven to be a hot spot for the tiny house movement with exponential growth and interest, said Browne. “Arlington has the resources to handle this expanding event,” said Browne. “The city offers a surplus of options for hotels, food, air travel, and transportation, not to mention the convention center that offers indoor space for workshops and exhibits.”

The 2017 Tiny House & Simple Living Jamboree is expected to attract 60,000 tiny house enthusiasts, builders, sustainability advocates and curiosity seekers. The event will feature 60 tiny house structures, exhibits, educational seminars & workshops, keynote speakers, entertainment, kids’ zones, and much more.

“We are thrilled to be collaborating with the National Tiny House Jamboree to bring the show to Arlington,” said Nancy Walsh, President of Reed Exhibitions U.S. “We recognize the growth in the tiny house movement and appreciate the passion of those devoted to small, smart and sustainable living. As we grow the event and increase education around the industry, we are looking to expand into other cities to expose more people to the exciting movement.”

With close to 30 hours of educational programming available at the event, attendees can expand their knowledge across a wide range of topics, including preparing for your first weekend in a tiny house, tiny building practices, techniques for downsizing and simple, smart and sustainable living solutions. In addition, attendees can explore a variety of tiny living products and services, such as construction equipment, furnishings & appliances, interior design, and outdoor living products.

New in 2017, the DIY Village will feature tiny house owners who will relocate their living quarters to the event’s outdoor exhibit space. Throughout the festival, visitors can explore the structures and ask homeowners about building and living the tiny house life.

The event will be managed under Reed’s LaunchPad group in the first year. “We see many synergies with the National Hardware Show,” said Browne. “The event has a strong b-to-c component already, and we see opportunities for expanding on the b-to-b side.”
