Nielsen Expositions Re-Christened Emerald Expositions, Inc.

HIL ANDERSON, SENIOR EDITOR

Toronto, Canada – The venerable Nielsen Expositions brand was officially retired when the trade show company’s new owners renamed it Emerald Expositions, Inc. The change was announced June 17 upon formal completion of the $950 million acquisition of Nielsen by Canadian equity firm Onex Corp from Nielsen Holdings N.V.

The reason Emerald was chosen as the new brand was not revealed, although emeralds and onyxes are both gemstones.

David Loechner, head of Nielsen Expositions and now CEO of Emerald, said, “Onex’s acquisition of our business has given us a partner that will help Emerald pursue new growth opportunities while continuing to deliver exceptional value to our exhibitors and attendees,” he said.

Emerald’s headquarters will be in the Nielsen offices in San Juan Capistrano, CA and its new website, emeraldexpositions.com, was up and running when the announcement was made. The company will continue to manage the Nielsen portfolio of 65 trade shows and conferences in the U.S.

“We’re excited to work with David and his management team to grow the company through both continued expansion of its existing shows and add-on acquisition opportunities,” said Kosty Gilis, one of Onex’s managing directors.
