SMG will be front and center for three headline-making events taking place this year and in 2016. The Pennsylvania Convention Center (PCC) in Philadelphia, which is managed by SMG, will be the primary venue for the 2016 Democratic National Convention. The Republican National Convention will take place at another SMG building, the Cleveland Convention Center. The PCC will also host this Fall’s World Meeting of Families, which will feature an appearance by Pope Francis.

ConvExx is the new organizer of the long-running Hollister Motorcycle Rally in California beginning this year. It’s the second motorcycle event to be run by ConvExx, which has produced the SEMA Show and SHOT Show in Las Vegas. Seth Doulton joins ConvExx as event manager for the rally…..

The Farnborough International Air Show moved a step closer to adding new permanent exhibit space. The British government approved a loan that show organizers will use to pursue additional funding for the $38.5 million project. The plan would replace the existing Hall 1/1A with a new building that also includes meeting space and restaurants.

Messe Dusseldorf will switch its massive printing show, drupa, to a triennial schedule after the next show in 2016. The event had been held in Germany every four years. The change was made partly due to shifts in the print process chain caused by the evolution of digital technology.

Messe Frankfurt and ITE Group teamed up to acquire Comtrans and Autotrans, two leading trade shows in Russia for buses and commercial vehicles. The Russian subsidiaries of the two European organizers will each hold 50% of Comtrans and Autotrans. Comtrans, the largest of the shows, drew 447 exhibitors and 25,000 attendees in 2013.

The Pasadena Civic Auditorium celebrated the grand reopening of its Exhibition Hall in February following a $900,000 renovation. The project involved removing an aging ice rink and restoring the hall, which was built in 1931, to its original purpose. Exhibition Hall covers 17,000 square feet and is located a short drive east of downtown Los Angeles.
