Mumbai India – Messe Frankfurt today announced that it has acquired LED Expo and Media Expo Fairs from Media Exposition & Events India (MEX) through its subsidiary, Messe Frankfurt Trade Fairs India Pvt. Ltd. The acquisition brings the total number of shows organized in India through its subsidiary to 14.

The annual LED Expo is held in Delhi in December and Mumbai in May and will be operated under Messe Frankfurt’s building and energy shows sector, led by the biennial Light + Building event in Frankfurt, next scheduled for March 13-18, 2016. LED Expo will continue to be held separately from Messe Frankfurt’s Light India show for now, based on a survey of local manufacturers’ preferences.

Media Expo is held annually in Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata and is the largest Indian exhibition for the signage, outdoor signage and digital signage industry. The next Delhi event is set for August, followed by Kolkata in November and Mumbai in January 2015. It will become a niche brand in Messe Frankfurt’s Entertainment, Media & Creation group of events, complementing the Prolight + Sound shows held in Frankfurt, Moscow, Shanghai and Guangzhou.

In announcing the acquisitions, Messe Frankfurt CEO Wolfgang Marzin said the Messe Frankfurt Group intends to extend the reach of these “already well-regarded names” through further development that will benefit customers. “We feel that these two industries are primed for future growth,” he said when the agreements were signed. LED products currently account for less than 4% of the Indian lighting industry, but that figure is expected to reach 20% by 2020.
