Massive Earthquake Spares Chengdu Exhibition Center

HIL ANDERSON, SENIOR EDITOR

Chengdu, China – The earthquake that devastated Sichuan Province in western China this week apparently did not cause significant damage to the major exhibition hall in the area.

A brief report from the China Association for Exhibition Centers (CAEC) in Beijing said that the Chengdu International Exhibition and Convention Center reported no major damage or injuries. However, the building’s staff members had some difficulty in getting to their jobs.

The report from the association was relayed to Trade Show Executive by officials at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The death toll from Monday’s quake, which measured 7.9 on the Richter scale, neared 15,000 on Wednesday with southern Sichuan being the hardest hit area of the province. Chengdu is located in the central part of the province.
