Marketplace Events Expands Northern Foothold

TSE STAFF

SOLON, OHIO — Marketplace Events, which operates in 32 markets across the U.S., just expanded its portfolio for the fourth time this year by acquiring the Minnesota Home & Patio Show from Minneapolis-St. Paul-based Cenaiko Productions. Prior to the purchase, Marketplace already operated four shows in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area, including two holiday shows and two home shows.

“We like the St. Paul deal for many reasons,” Marketplace CEO Tom Baugh told Trade Show Executive. “Obviously, it’s a nice tuck-in acquisition in a terrific consumer show metro where we have a significant presence and record of success. Not surprisingly, our Minneapolis staff is very enthusiastic about the opportunity. The show is a part of the fabric of St. Paul and takes place in an excellent, well-managed venue [St. Paul RiverCentre]. Finally, our dominant position in the market should give our sales and marketing efforts even better odds of reaching our customers and prospects. We’re hoping all the above results in strong St. Paul growth.”

Baugh added that because Marketplace and Cenaiko President Nick Cenaiko, Jr. have a longstanding relationship, “discussing the deal and coming to terms was comfortable for both parties.”

Under the Marketplace umbrella, the Home & Patio Show will be overseen by Show Manager Lauren Wallerius, whose team operates the Minneapolis Home + Remodeling Show and the Minneapolis Home + Garden Show, both annual events. Baugh said he could not reveal the purchase price for the show.
