Los Angeles, CA – Pouria Abbassi, who is serving as interim general manager of the Los Angeles Convention Center, was named to the job on a permanent basis by Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa on March 19.

Abbassi, whose appointment is subject to approval by the city council, will replace George Rakis, who retired last year. He had been the executive assistant general manager and chief operating officer of the LACC and was selected for the top job after a three-month nationwide search.

Abbassi is long-time city employee with an extensive financial background. Prior to joining the LACC staff in 2000, he was a senior technology analyst for the city’s Chief Administrative Office.

The mayor’s office said one of Abbassi’s first tasks would be to implement a program to run the LACC completely on “green-generated” power by the end of the 2008 fiscal year.
