Information Today Acquires SpeechTEK Shows

HIL ANDERSON, SENIOR EDITOR

Medford, NJ – Information Today, Inc. (ITI)  acquired the SpeechTEK Conferences and Expositions along with Speech Technology Magazine from AmComm Holdings, Inc. The deal, announced June 20th, was effective immediately and increased the size of ITI’s stable of IT conferences to an even dozen.

SpeechTEK produces two shows annually – SpeechTEK and SpeechTEK West – that deal with technology that allows computers to recognize and react to spoken words, such as the automated customer-service lines used by credit card companies.

SpeechTEK 2006 is scheduled for Aug. 7-10 at the New York Marriott Marquis. Last year’s event drew more than 3,000 attendees representing 1,800 companies. This year’s edition of SpeechTEK West was held in February at the Hyatt Regency San Francisco and brought in about 1,400 attendees. “I’ve seen speech technology evolve from an emerging technology into an essential mainstream application for any successful organization,” said John Kelly, CEO of AmComm Holdings.  “ITI is going to bring a tremendous depth of experience and new energy that will be of great benefit to the industry and the people in it.”

Kentucky-based AmComm acquired the SpeechTEK properties in 2000 from Comtek Expositions. Corporate Solutions of Westport, CT facilitated both the 2000 transaction and the deal announced June 20.
