The 2019 World Pork Expo was canceled as a precaution against a potential outbreak of a highly contagious livestock disease. The National Pork Producers Council (NPPC) said its board of directors decided to cancel the June show in Des Moines out of concern that African swine fever (ASF), which can spread rapidly among herds of hogs, could make landfall in the United States at the show and infect some of the nearly 3,000 hogs that will be on display at the Iowa State Fairgrounds. ASF does not affect human health and cannot be transmitted from pigs to humans. The show will go on at the Junior National, which is organized by the National Swine Registry. ...
Robust, across-the-board increases in February has put 2019 squarely in the black, according to the latest figures from Trade Show Executive’s (TSE) Dashboard of Trade Show Metrics. Despite the month starting out with record-setting cold weather across much of the U.S., February’s numbers were hot, with a 3% growth rate in two of the three metrics. Of the 25 shows included in February’s metrics, eight grew in all three metrics, while six declined across the board. The top cities for February were Las Vegas, followed by Atlanta, and running a close third, Anaheim. ...

Core-apps, an award-winning developer of mobile apps for the trade show industry and similar events, has been acquired by Community Brands. It is the latest in a trio of recent acquisitions by Community Brands in the events arena. Core-apps celebrated its 10-year anniversary in March, during which time it achieved more than 2.6 billion downloads of its mobile apps. Financial details relating to the acquisition were not disclosed. ...
Exhibit space at the 2019 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show (FLIBS) has surpassed 3-million square feet with the addition of Superyacht Village and Marina. Befitting of FLIBS 60th anniversary, this new dedicated marina and on-land exhibition space will display the largest and fanciest pleasure craft that will be sailing the most exclusive of the Seven Seas. The new section will also be populated with displays of luxury automobiles and other swanky accoutrements of what Informa called the “superyacht lifestyle.” Plans include a destination restaurant, reserved parking, valet and private water tender services.
