HIMSS Acquires and Rebrands its UK Partner Citadel Events

Chicago, IL – The Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) has bought out and rebranded its British events partner. The deal gives HIMMS full ownership of Citadel Events Ltd., an event management firm that specializes in health IT. Citadel will be renamed HIMSS UK and will be organize a series of one-day regional events in Great Britain beginning later this year. The Citadel management team will remain in place.

The president of HIMSS, H. Stephen Lieber, said the move positions HIMSS to play an active role in the adoption of digital healthcare technology by European governments and healthcare services. “Through our educational programs, events, market insights, and other initiatives, HIMSS will be a valuable partner to government, trusts, clinicians and other key stakeholders in achieving a better care system,” he said.

HIMSS had acquired a minority stake in Citadel in 2012. The two firms partnered with BCS, the Chartered Institute for IT to organize HC2013 and HC2014 in Manchester.

HIMSS UK joins existing HIMSS units in North America, Asia, the Middle East, Latin America and elsewhere in Europe to support hospitals, physicians, health executives and others whose goal is the betterment of health through information technology.
