HFUSA Launches Firefighter Show

REGINA MCGEE, SENIOR NEWS EDITOR

Chicago — Hannover Fairs USA (HFUSA) will debut INTERSCHUTZ USA next year at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia. The five-day event, to be held October 13-17, will focus on the North American firefighting equipment and safety industry. Attendance is projected to be about 3,500.

Chicago-based HFUSA is a subsidiary of Hannover, Germany’s Deutsche Messe, one of the largest organizers of industrial technology events and capital goods trade shows. Deutsche Messe produces INTERSCHUTZ, the world’s biggest trade show for fire and rescue services, which takes place every five years in Hannover. The most recent show (2015) drew more than 150,000 attendees from around the world.

“We did extensive, in-person research with potential INTERSCHUTZ USA exhibitors and attendees. They were very enthusiastic about the event and will be supportive,” Larry Turner, president and CEO of HFUSA, told Trade Show Executive. “INTERSCHUTZ USA allows us to meet the needs of the 21st century fire-service in the U.S. while respecting its traditions. At the same time, it gives us the opportunity to bring content from the rest of the INTERSCHUTZ family of fire events to the U.S. marketplace.”

While the number of U.S. exhibitors and attendees continues to grow at Hannover’s INTERSCHUTZ, “the majority of the U.S.-based fire-service and EMS personnel do not have the opportunity or means to attend the show in Germany,” Turner said. “We’re excited to bring INTERSCHUTZ to them.”

The show aims to offer U.S.-based fire and emergency medical services personnel a new experience, including social and family events and participation from the Philadelphia Fire Department. Members of the city’s fire department and exhibitors will showcase the advances and leadership in fire service technology and tactics from Philadelphia and across the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast.

“The Philadelphia Fire Department couldn’t be more excited to welcome the world to Philadelphia by hosting INTERSCHUTZ USA with our regional partners. Since 1736, the Philadelphia Fire Department has been dedicated to safety, innovation and best practices, and we look forward to INTERSCHUTZ USA and all it has to offer in October 2020,” said Adam Thiel, fire commissioner of the Philadelphia Fire Department and director of the Philadelphia Office of Emergency Management.

“Philadelphia has a proud history of firefighting innovation led by Ben Franklin who organized the country’s first Union Fire Company in 1736,” added Kavin Schieferdecker, Senior Vice President, Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau. “We are pleased and honored that INTERSCHUTZ has selected Philadelphia to host their first U.S.-based trade show, and we look forward to building long-term relationships with Hannover Fairs USA.”
