| Düsseldorf – Joachim Schäfer was appointed Managing Director of Messe Düsseldorf GmbH, effective June 1, 2006. The announcement was made at a meeting of the shareholders and Supervisory Board November 10th. Schäfer, and Managing Director Wilhelm Niedergöker, will take joint responsibility for the operative business. Schäfer has been President of Hannover Fairs USA Inc. since 1985, responsible for Hannover Messe’s entire portfolio and associated activities in the U.S.
In 1980, Schäfer joined DELIA Associates, which served as the U.S. rep firm for Messe Düsseldorf and subsequently Hannover Messe. Also, as Managing Director of Trans European American Marketing Company (TEAM) in the U.S., he continued as the U.S. rep for selected events staged by the Essen, Hannover, Bern and Utrecht trade fair companies.
