Las Vegas – GES Exposition Services today announced the acquisition of one of its strongest competitors in Canada, Pro Show Services, an Edmonton, AB-based convention services contractor.  The purchase price was not disclosed.

“GES currently has a strong presence in the provinces of Quebec and Ontario, but we were not the size we wanted to be in western Canada,” says Mike Lecour, Regional Vice President for GES CANADA. “The Pro Show acquisition provides us with a significant presence in Edmonton and Calgary, Alberta. Neither company is very active at this point in Vancouver or the rest of British Columbia, but we will target that region in the future.”

GES CANADA picks up the total Pro Show offerings, including contracts, five facilities and about 80 employees. Dennis Upright, Pro Show President, will remain for three months to oversee the transition and then move on to new endeavors. Lecour calls the acquisition “perfect timing,” since the lease is up on the GES facility in Edmonton, and Pro Show has just opened a new building. The opposite situation exists in Calgary, where Pro Show will wind up a lease and move into GES’ new facility.

Pro Show offers the same range of services as GES including comprehensive exhibitor services and a full scope of show management requirements. One benefit to current Pro Show clients is the ability to take advantage of the GES exhibit and display building capabilities. Current GES clients will receive the advantages of more resources and service personnel. Lecour adds that, “Nine times out of ten, when we moved a show out of a convention center, it was to allow a Pro Show event to move in. Now we’ll be able to stay in the facility and really look after our clients.”

The acquisition gives GES a total of 35 offices in North America.
