Canadian Association Agrees to Acquire dmg Gift Shows

HIL ANDERSON, SENIOR EDITOR

Toronto, ON – The pending acquisition of some or all of dmg world media’s Canadian gift shows by the Canadian Gift & Tableware Association (CGTA) should be finalized in mid-September, the CGTA announced.

The association, which represents 1,500 Canadian companies in the giftware trade, confirmed it had struck an agreement in principle on the transaction with dmg and was conducting due diligence in late August.

Terms of the deal were not released and dmg declined comment. The CGTA said dmg employees involved in the management of the events would be added to the CGTA staff once the sale was finalized.

The pending sale continues the culling of dmg’s portfolio of consumer-oriented events in favor of trade shows geared toward an industry audience. The process most recently included the sale in July of the San Francisco International Gift Fair and Seattle Gift Show to Urban Expositions, Inc.

The three Canadian gift shows owned by dmg in Canada include the Montreal Gift ShowVancouver Gift Show and Alberta Gift Show, which are held in August and September. The CGTA would not confirm that it was acquiring all three events.
