Canada’s Global Convention Services Acquires Halifax Operation from Freeman

Saint John, NB – Canadian service contractor Global Convention Services (GCS) announced today the acquisition of Freeman’s Halifax operation, according to a joint statement from both companies. The acquisition includes Freeman’s equipment inventory. Starting July l, Freeman employees will become employees of GCS and the company will service existing customers in the Halifax region. Freeman said in a statement that the move made sense, based on Global’s strong presence in the Atlantic coast market. Freeman will retain its operations in Montreal, Ottawa and Toronto, where more of its recent Canadian business is based.

GCS is based in Saint John, New Brunswick with offices in Halifax, Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, and St. John’s Newfoundland.  John O’Connell, Executive Vice President and COO, Eastern Region for Freeman, says  it is the company’s policy to choose office locations on client needs.  “…it is in the best interest of both our regional customers in Halifax, as well as our other exposition clients in Canada, to concentrate each of our respective company strengths in the marketplaces we serve best.” Mark Howes, President of Global Convention Services, says, “We are very excited to be adding the Halifax Freeman staff to our trade show team, and we welcome their local customer and community support as well.

The dollar amount of the transaction was not available at press time.

The sale leaves Freeman  with 28 offices, including its three remaining operations in Canada. The acquisition brings Global Convention Services’ office count to six.
