Boston’s MCCA Names Fred Peterson Interim Executive Director

HIL ANDERSON, SENIOR EDITOR

Boston, MA – Fred Peterson, director of facilities operations for the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority (MCCA), was named interim executive director effective July 1.

Peterson, who has been with the MCCA for 16 years, will take over the position being vacated by Jim Rooney, who is stepping down on June 30 to become president and CEO of the Boston Chamber of Commerce.

The MCCA board of directors selected Peterson based on his expansive role in the day-to-day operations of the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center and the John B. Hynes Veterans Memorial Convention Center. He oversees loading dock operations, transportation and security as well as relationships with some 20 outside contractors.

Meanwhile, the board recently established a search committee and hired the executive recruitment firm Korn Ferry to help find a permanent replacement for Rooney. The board estimated it would take four to six months to select a final candidate; Peterson is not seeking the permanent position.
