TSE Announces the Select Trade Shows that Will Be Celebrated This September as Gold 100 Honorees

By Hil Anderson, senior editor

Oceanside, CA – The International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) grabbed the top spot in the Trade Show Executive Gold 100 rankings of 2010, announced Darlene Gudea, president of Trade Show Executive Media Group on May 18. The perennial pack leader spanned 1.4 million net square feet (nsf)  of exhibit space, snagging the title for three of the four years in which the Gold 100 has been published and organized.

“While it’s no surprise that CES topped the Gold 100 roster of the largest trade shows of 2010, there was plenty of uncertainty over what other shows would make the cut, how they weighed in compared to 2009, and what  ideas they implemented to maintain prosperity  in a challenging economy,” said Gudea. The CES team from the Consumer Electronics Association will be among the 200 exhibition industry luminaries on hand at the Fourth Annual TSE Gold 100 Awards & Summit on September 21-23.  This year’s event moves up the coast to the Ritz-Carlton Half Moon Bay, situated on one of the most beautiful coastlines that California has to offer and an easy 25-mile drive southwest of the San Francisco International Airport.

The select group of guests will take part in a full schedule of networking opportunities, a fast-paced conference  and the highlight of the event, the presentation of the TSE Gold Grand Awards at the always-exciting dinner and gala.

The honored shows range from the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES ) at the top of the list to Reed Exhibition’s Book Expo at 174,500 net square feet which edged out several other close contenders.  In between the two well-known brands are 98 other powerhouses in the medical, food, construction and retail sectors. The rankings were compiled by TSE’s editorial team during a year-long process of gathering data, resolving discrepancies, and obtaining certified statements of accuracy from the organizers.

UBM’s David Levin Takes Center Stage
David Levin, CEO of United Business Media (UBM), will be in the spotlight at Bob Dallmeyer’s Power Lunch session, a live version of TSE’s monthly interview with industry visionaries. Levin joined UBM in 2005 and has led the worldwide media firm through the recession and into an ambitious expansion stage. UBM committed $287 million last year for the blockbuster acquisition of Canon Communications LLC.  And although UBM’s print revenues continue to struggle with a drop of (13.0)% in the First Quarter of 2011, year-over-year revenue for UBM’s event division jumped 16% to £84 million (about $139  million) and adjusted operating profit surged 68% to £28 million (about $46 million). Hear firsthand about Levin’s gutsy moves and future plans as he continues to make UBM one of the most-watched and talked-about global companies in the trade show industry today.

What’s in Your Wallet?
A new research study on Executive Compensation Trends for 2012  is underway and will be released by Exhibit Surveys, Inc. and Trade Show Executive at the Gold 100 Summit.  New ways to compensate and motivate high achievers will be the focus of this presentation by Skip Cox, president and CEO of Exhibit Surveys and Danica Tormohlen, contributing editor of Trade Show Executive.

“The high quality of the conference, the elegant setting and the unparalleled gathering of industry success stories  has made the Gold 100 Awards & Summit the highlight of the year for the trade show industry,” said Diane Bjorklund, TSE’s vice president of events.  The event’s top sponsors will present TSE’s Grand Awards to the organizers of the trade shows that set the Gold Standard for the exhibition industry.
