Tony Calanca
Executive Vice President, Exhibitions
Tony Calanca is Executive Vice President, Exhibitions for UBM Americas, which includes the legacy Advanstar, UBM Canon, UBM Connect and UBM Tech brands. During ten years in his prior role at Advanstar, Tony had been responsible for the growth of Advanstar’s trade exhibitions in the Fashion, Licensing, Life Sciences, and Powersports and Automotive industries. Tony’s additional responsibilities include dozens of events in numerous new locations (throughout the U.S., Mexico and Brazil), and in numerous additional industries.

Tony has over 30 years’ experience with large-scale domestic and international trade and consumer exhibitions and conferences. Previously he served as Senior Vice President at Reed Exhibitions running a $90 million division. Tony also co-founded a small entrepreneurial trade show firm, Infinity Expo Group, which, combined with his Reed and Advanstar tenures, has given him proven experience with large profile events as well as new launch initiatives. Tony is an active member of the exhibition community as a member of SISO, IAEE and CEIR, and is a frequent speaker at industry events.

Philip Evans
Phil joined Emerald in October 2013 and serves as chief financial officer, with responsibility for finance, accounting, IT, and facilities. He has over 30 years’ experience in financial roles, including seven years in public accounting in the UK, three of these with EY. During his 16 year career with Reed Elsevier he relocated to the United States to join their LexisNexis division. Phil subsequently served as CFO of several companies, most recently ProQuest, a leading provider of online information to researchers. He holds a BA from the University of Lancaster and is an Associate of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.

Karen Gebhart
Vice President of Business Development of Helicopter Association International
Karen Gebhart is the Vice President of Business Development for the Helicopter Association International. She oversees HAI HELI-EXPO, the world’s largest vertical flight trade show and conference. HAI HELI-EXPO produces over $2 billion in floor sales annually for the vertical flight industry and attracts attendees from over 90 countries. Under her direction she also leads HAI’s membership, sales, and business development departments. Prior to HAI, Gebhart served as Executive Vice President at the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. During her tenure at AOPA she ran the communications, convention, membership, technical services, fundraising, sales, and public relations departments. Gebhart and her husband Ray reside in Frederick MD. She holds a private pilot license and serves on the Board of Directors for the National Aeronautical Association, and as Chairman of the Board for the Women in Aviation. Through WAI, she hopes to expand the reach of the helicopter industry to young women seeking a career in aviation.

Michael Guerriero
Division President, Experient
As President, Guerriero leads the organization with passion and focused vision leading to the best overall care and service for our clients and a culture of people development throughout Experient. Guerriero’s vision in assisting our clients to transform their events and connect with their audiences is what motivates our teams to create the most innovative event experiences possible.

Guerriero oversees all aspects of Experient's full-service event portfolio including event management, unified registration and housing, exhibitor services, and venue and supplier sourcing with an overlay of experience design across all services.

Guerriero joined Experient in 1990. He was the company’s Chief Financial Officer from 1995 through 2012, and has helped navigate Experient through significant organic and acquisition-related growth. Prior to joining Experient, he worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers. He is a member of ASAE, PCMA and IAEE, and also serves on the Kent State University Hospitality Management Advisory Board, the St. Louis National Customer Advisory Board and the Trade Show Executive (TSE) Exposition Forecasting Board.

Kerry C. Gumas
President and Chief Executive Officer
Kerry Gumas led the founding of Questex in 2005 via a management buyout and since inception has served as President & CEO. Prior to founding Questex, he held senior executive positions at Advanstar, IDG and Reed Exhibitions in Europe, Asia and the U.S. He began his career as an trade specialist at the U.S. Department of Commerce responsible for China trade promotion activities and continues to be a strong advocate for international trade and investment. He is a board member of industry associations, including ABM/SIIA and is a past president and board member of SISO and SACEOS. He is an alumnus of American University and Widener University where he also serves on the advisory board of the School of Hospitality Management.

Kai Hattendorf
Managing Director
Kai Hattendorf became the Managing Director of UFI, the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry, in October 2015. As such, he is responsible for all UFI activities and events, as well as the operation of its three offices in Paris, Hong Kong and Sharjah.

Prior to his current role, Kai worked in the exhibition industry for a number of years in senior management positions at Messe Frankfurt’s global headquarters, focusing on transformational issues ranging from digitisation to marketing and communications.

His previous career also includes leadership positions in marketing/strategic communications as well as in strategy and product development in the ITC and Media Industry for the Deutsche Telekom Group, the dpa Group (the German Press Agency), and a start-up.

A journalist by education, Kai has internationally reported and worked for the WDR and Radio Bremen broadcasters in Germany, at Euronews in France, the BBC in the UK, and the Voice of America. He holds a Master’s degree from the American University, Washington, DC. He also studied in Dortmund and Edinburgh.

Michael Howe
Executive Vice President
Michael Howe is the Executive Vice President of onPeak, a leader in the event housing industry and a GES global network company. Michael joined onPeak in 2006 leading the company through the changing business environment and spearheading multiple mergers and acquisitions. Michael is passionate about his people and the technology that drives the industry forward. A native of New Zealand, Michael has worked and lived in multiple countries giving him a wider appreciation of culture and people.

Leah Hunter
Leah Hunter writes about the human side of tech for Fast Company. She is currently writing a book and multi-media video/audio series entitled The Future Hunter. Volume 1 will be released later in 2016.

Hunter has spent 15 years exploring the intersection of business, technology, culture, and design. She writes for Business Punk magazine, is the co-creator of the Design of Wearables series for California College of the Arts, was the editor of MISC Magazine, and is the former AVP of Innovation at Idea Couture. She has developed products and brand strategies for PepsiCo, M&M/Mars, Hershey’s, Heinz, P&G, Electrolux, Sephora, and Apple, among others. She guest lectures at NYU’s ITP, The University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business, and UC Berkeley, and today works at Chief Ethnographer for the NYC-based consultancy Unreasonable Women: a group that puts women’s needs at the center of product, service, and workplace policy design.

Jim Kelley
Vice President, Sales & Industry Relations
As Vice President, Sales & Industry Relations for PRG, Jim is actively engaged in leading the company’s sales team & industry relation efforts while also effectively managing a portfolio of events.

Jim is committed to supporting the professional growth of the industry though active industry involvement and speaking. He participates in PCMA both locally and nationally, serving on the Convening Leaders Content Committee and the PCMA Capital Chapter Board of Directors. In 2014 he was honored by PCMA as the “Distinguished Service Professional of the Year”. Additionally he serves as a Board Trustee for the Incentive Research Foundation and serves on the IAEE Senior Executives Programming Task Force. In 2015 he was the recipient of the PRG Presidents Award.

Jon Liebtag
Business Development Lead
Jon has a diverse professional background spanning several industries and positions. Recently he has focused on strategic financial analysis as well as operational efficiency and implementation. He is currently working in business development building the business travel program at Airbnb. Previously he ran corporate and operational FP&A for Airbnb and led operational business management and financial strategy at Netflix across various divisions.

Gary McCarthy
Subject Matter Expert, Domestic and International Policing
Garry McCarthy, is a Subject Matter Expert on Domestic and International Policing at United Service Companies. In this capacity, he facilitates all plans regarding issues related to municipal policing planning and policing needs.

Throughout his extensive law enforcement career, Garry McCarthy has consistently delivered superior results. Through executive leadership roles, operations management techniques and implementing innovative crime control strategies, McCarthy has significantly reduced crime and streamlined efficiencies.

Philip McKay
President & CEO
Philip McKay has a proven track record as a successful senior executive with leading event companies. Before founding nGage Events LLC, Phil served as Executive VP for Questex Media and was responsible for their hosted model events and technology group. He has also served as Senior Vice President of the World Market Center in Las Vegas in charge of growing their event portfolio in the furniture, gift and home accessories industries. Mr. McKay held the position of Group Vice President and General Manager at Gartner's Vision Events, where he managed the teams of 10 different brands which were leaders in the hosted events in each of their verticals. He also served as Senior Vice President of International for Key3Media Group, overseeing the company's portfolio of COMDEX and N+I with 20 plus markets in Latin America, Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia. Prior to Key3Media, McKay was Group Managing Director for Penton Media. In 2004, Mr. McKay was recognized and awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award from Tradeshow Week magazine for his outstanding and distinguished contributions to the global events industry.

McKay was a member of the board of directors of SISO, Massachusetts Convention Center Advisory Board, also was past chairman of IAEE Senior Executive Advisory Board and The Future Strategy of Trade Fairs. He also was a past member of the Research Committee of CEIR and editorial advisory board member of Tradeshow Executive Magazine.

Chris Nemchek
Sr. Vice President of Sales and Business Development
Chris Nemchek is the Sr. Vice President of Sales and Business Development at the Specialty Food Association. He is a 25 year veteran of the Specialty Food and International Tradeshow Industries. Nemchek currently oversees the department responsible for maintaining and developing all member and international relationships as well as the specialty food buying community.

His work includes strategy development and execution of revenue generation and membership growth and advancement plans. He enjoys building partnerships with domestic trade associations and international governmental agencies and he has been instrumental in developing the Fancy Food Shows into North America’s premiere specialty food marketplace.

While Nemchek’s main focus is on relationship-building between SFA members and the specialty food buying community, his department is also responsible for developing new promotional opportunities and streams of revenue for the Association.

A frequent speaker at industry educational programs, Nemchek currently sits on the Boards of the International Association of Exhibitions and Events (IAEE) and their New York Chapter. He is also the past chairman of IAEE’s MATSO Council.
