CHICAGO — The “city that works” is working on the 2021 events industry return through its Healthy Meetings Chicago Phase 1 initiative. A series of interactive videos explain the health and safety measures taken to ensure the wellbeing of attendees, staff and exhibitors for meetings, conventions or events at McCormick Place Campus, North America’s largest convention center.
“Choose Chicago” launched the Healthy Measures Chicago digital platform for desktop or laptop in collaboration with the Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority.
Already armed with the Global Biorisk Advisory Council®’s GBAC STAR™ accreditation, the gold standard for clean and safe facilities, McCormick Place Campus maintains a gold standard of health and safety protocols. Leaders promise that planners and attendees can be confident about choosing and returning to Chicago when meetings and conventions resume.

The digital platform featured in Healthy Meetings Chicago replicates the journey attendees will experience as they travel to Chicago for a future meeting or event. The adventure begins at one of the city’s international airports and continues with rideshare, taxicabs or public transit options. The videos feature checking into a hotel, arriving at McCormick Place and exploring the city’s attractions and dining options, all while highlighting the immense sanitation and health measures taking place at each step of that journey. Future guests will be reassured they are in safe hands upon arrival in the city.
Healthy Meetings Chicago demonstrates the impressive state-of-the-art technology that is employed throughout a visit to the city. UVC lights technology and HEPA air filtration systems sanitize and cleanse airplanes; onsite COVID testing and touchless check-in at the airports add another layer of protection. Accommodations on the McCormick Place Campus are highly regimented in cleaning protocols. The Marriott Marquis Chicago is certified by Marriott International’s Commitment to Clean protocols, and the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place boasts six onsite hygiene managers and the use of electrostatic cleaning methods.
The video snippets of Healthy Meetings Chicago also allow viewers to discover that the convention center utilizes Kaivac, a science-based cleaning system, in highly trafficked areas, while each hall has an individualized ventilation system to circulate in outside air. Also, the facility is laser-focused on simplifying registration and fulfilling the event process while maintaining strict health and sanitation standards.
