Chicago — UBM plc recently acquired three shows in the Americas, including THE Aesthetic Show in Las Vegas and two green energy events in Latin America.

UBM acquired THE Aesthetic Show and its related media assets from Medical Insight, Inc. and picked up the Mexico International Renewable Energy Congress (MIREC) and the Argentinian International Renewable Energy Congress (AIREC) from U.K.-based Green Power Global.

Getting Greener

Acquiring the energy shows contributed to UBM’s growth strategy in two ways, said Scott Schulman, CEO of UBM Americas. “What is particularly exciting about the acquisition of MIREC and AIREC is that, in addition to building UBM’s presence in Latin America, it helps establish the company in a space with so much promise — renewable energy,” he said.

UBM currently organizes clean energy events in Asia and India as well as The Battery Show USA. With its latest acquisition, UBM steps into the evolving large-scale electricity market in Latin America. “Renewable energy in Latin America is an attractive new vertical for UBM Americas,” said Jaime Salazar Figueroa, Director General and Managing Director, UBM Mexico. “We are excited to add the largest renewables events in Mexico and Argentina to our portfolio; AIREC and MIREC are both highly complementary to UBM’s existing presence in renewable and energy-related markets.”

The second annual AIREC took place in October at the Hilton Hotel, Puerto Madera, in Buenos Aires. The most recent MIREC was held in May in Mexico City and attracted 1,473 attendees.

Cosmetic Changes

THE Aesthetic Show was assigned to the Medica media portfolio, which is part of UBM’s Life Sciences Group. The show provides a multi-disciplinary conference program and exhibit hall for plastic surgeons, dermatologists and other specialists in the emerging field of aesthetic medicine.

“It is exciting to be able to add another event to our Life Sciences portfolio and strategically tie the UBM Medica media properties to a fast-growing trade event,” Schulman said. “What is particularly exciting about this acquisition is that THE Aesthetic Show increases UBM’s depth and breadth in the growing aesthetic market.”

THE Aesthetic Show returns to The Wynn in Las Vegas July 5-8, 2018.

“I think this is a truly exciting opportunity for THE Aesthetic Show and its associated media properties to capitalize on the $9.5 billion b-to-b medical aesthetic market,” said Michael Moretti, CEO, Group Publisher & Editor, Medical Insight, Inc. “UBM’s extensive skincare-focused media portfolio will help take THE Aesthetic Show to the next level.”
