Shawn Pierce to Lead New MCI USA Event Unit

McLean, VA – Shawn Pierce, former division president at Experient, a Maritz Travel Company, will head up a new events management division created through the merger of The MCI Group and Coulter Companies.

The new unit, Strategic Event Management (SEM), is part of the newly formed MCI USA brand and will serve the U.S. market for association and corporate events.

“MCI USA’s SEM business will harness MCI’s global reach and scale in delivering capabilities that don’t just manage risk, but drive bottom-line results,” said Pierce, who last year stepped down as president of Experient’s registration and housing division. Experient, which was acquired by Maritz in 2012, serviced major exhibitions such as PACK EXPO Las Vegas, MAGIC and the NAB Show. Prior to joining Experient in 2010, Pierce was a senior vice president of Hanley Wood Exhibitions.

MCI USA includes all of the U.S. operations of MCI and Coulter Companies. The merger gives MCI a presence in 60 cities in 31 nations and a staff of about 2,000. MCI USA is headquartered in McLean, VA, with its experiential marketing and events division based in New York. Thomas Coulter Gibson, founder of Coulter Companies, was named CEO of MCI USA. Erin Fuller was appointed president of MCI USA Association Management & Consulting, and Blake Kotenbrink was named president of MCI USA’s luxury experiential events division.
