Denver — The revamped winter edition of Outdoor Retailer made its Denver debut with a sold-out exhibit floor and an enthusiastic crowd of buyers and sellers from the snow sports industry.

Emerald Expositions did not just move the winter edition of its semi-annual Outdoor Retailer from its longtime home in Salt Lake City to the Mile High City but also launched its new partnership with the SnowSports Industries America (SIA), the longtime owners of the SIA Snow Show in Denver.

The combined shows were rechristened Outdoor Retailer + Snow Show and opened Jan. 25 with exhibits on all three levels of the packed Colorado Convention Center. “The new floor plan combines the iconic and the up-and-coming brands in snow sports and outdoor,” said Marisa Nicholson, Vice President and Show Director for Outdoor Retailer. “Our team worked very hard to create a thoughtful and efficient show floor with category neighborhoods that make sense from a buyer’s point of view for easy navigation, while also being sensitive to exhibitor requests and history.”

Meanwhile, the festivities move to the nearby Copper Mountain Resort Jan. 29-30 for the popular On-Snow Demo feature where buyers can test the latest skiing and snowboarding gear.

The exact size of the exhibit floor was not immediately available, but the Colorado Convention Center offers 584,000 square feet (sf) of prime exhibit space and 100,000 sf of meeting space. The Denver center is ranked 25th on the Trade Show Executive World’s Top Convention Centers. By comparison, the 2017 Outdoor Retailer in Utah covered 397,135 net square feet (nsf) of space while the SIA Snow Show occupied 235,000 nsf. Both shows took place during January and both saw their exhibit space decline in 2017 when compared to the previous year.

Combining Outdoor Retailer, which focuses on the outdoor lifestyle in general, with the Snow Show and its base in the ski and snowboard industry, created a broader customer base for Emerald. “Bringing these two communities together in one show has been an incredible opportunity to showcase the very best of both industries,” Nicholson said.
